UROGENESYS AND PROTEIN PATHWAYS COMBINE GENOMICS AND PROTEOMICS

Santa Monica, Calif., February 28, 2000 - UroGenesys, Inc. and Protein Pathways, Inc. announced today an alliance to apply Protein Pathways' proprietary bioinformatics technologies to UroGenesys' proprietary database of cancer-associated antigens. The companies expect the combination of their genomics and proteomics expertise to uncover functional information that will guide therapeutic development of UroGenesys' proprietary antigens, as well as identify new product candidates for cancer therapy. Terms of the alliance were not disclosed.

UroGenesys has established a disease-focused genomics program to discover and validate clinically relevant targets in cancer, with an initial focus on prostate cancer. Utilizing proprietary mouse models of human prostate tumors and other tissue sources, UroGenesys has discovered and filed patent applications on numerous antigens that show substantial promise in therapy or diagnostics of prostate as well as other cancers. The company is pursuing the validation of these discoveries as targets for different therapeutic applications including antibody, small molecule and vaccine, and is seeking corporate partners for clinical development.

Protein Pathways has developed proprietary bioinformatics technologies in the field of proteomics. The Company's computational technologies, including Phylogenetic Profiles and Rosetta Stone and expression data analysis, are combined systematically in the Protein Pathways Gold Functionator. The Gold Functionator determines functions for proteins such as those discovered by UroGenesys, using gene sequences from many genomes in combination with data from expression libraries. With these technologies, Protein Pathways is able to mine valuable knowledge from the avalanche of genomic data that is becoming available and thereby to guide and focus the process of drug discovery.
